On the eve of Lent.

Lent starts tomorrow! Didn't we just get done with Christmas???? Time flies when you are preoccupied...

Yesterday I spent some time making this calendar for the kids to count down the days until Easter.

Each day there is something for them to count. For each thing they count, they put the corresponding amount of pennies into the Alms Jar to present to the church on Easter week. I saw a similar calendar idea elsewhere and thought this would be a good way to start to introduce the kids to alms-giving in a real tangible way. We will also pray the rosary for particular needs, fast on Fridays, abstain from sweets and treats, attend Mass one extra day a week (Latin Mass on Wednesday evenings until we move), and follow along with the Holy Heroes Advent Adventure.
Anthony in particular is enjoying all these activities. When I woke him for school this morning, he groaned and mumbled, "But I want to do hoooooomeschool." Soon enough.

For today, we're celebrating in a very solemn way (yeah uh huh sure) the last day of sweet and treat freedom with homemade Cream Puffs.

Auntie told me Grt Grma deep fried hers...don't bother. Think french doughnuts, which are great, tho not if you want cream puffs.

Neat idea about the Lent calendar. I might have to use something like that. Are you going to try homeschool again? It's really rewarding. I think you'll like it a lot.

Yes, I'm going to home school again after we move! I told Kevin I wasn't going to put him into a different school for only a couple of months. It just seems dumb to me. And I really have been wanting to home school. I've just had to do some convincing with Kevin:) I've been supplementing with Catholic Heritage Curricula all along and doing Sunday schooling with both kids. I LOVE it. And so do they. It seems silly, but having Anthony in school has sort of "interfered" with real life, especially when it's just for a couple of hours each day...
