Menu Plan Monday and our weekend.

After spending much time trying to decide what to have for dinner each night, we decided that a weekly menu would be a good idea and would save money on impulse buying.

So this weeks menu follows.

Monday
Pot Roast with Potatoes and Carrots

Tuesday
Turkey Meatloaf, Salad and Mashed Potatoes

Wednesday- My Birthday
Lasagna, Salad, Garlic Bread
Cheesecake for dessert

Thursday
Talapia, Rice, and Veggie (whatever looks good at the store)

Friday
Grilled Steak, Baked Potatoes and Baby Carrots

Saturday
Fettuccine Alfredo, Garlic bread, Salad

Sunday
Moroccan Chicken, Fries, and Veggie (to be decided)

Yesterday Operation Home Front threw a Beach Party specifically aimed towards Wives of Injured Marines. They had a free BBQ, games for the kids, tables set up with different services aimed towards mental health and well-being, and a book giveaway. We were all about it! We didn't know before hand about the book give away and so we ended up with a huge pile of books keeping us company on our beach blanket and towels. It was pretty impressive seeing a semi full of boxes, full of books, and tables covered in books all for the taking. Operation Home Front rocks! They also had horses, and pony's there for the kids to pet. And some guy from the chargers there signing autographs and shmoozing with the people.

Kevin and I met a 2 Star General who was there overseeing everything. He seemed pretty nice. It was interesting to meet him yesterday and read in the paper this morning what he was saying about Marine Families....the headline reading " Spouses fatigued by war". " Though deployments are 'going better than expected,' some families appear to be withdrawing from activities, said Maj. Gen. ...Commanding Gen. of Marine Corps Instillation West. ' The spouses are getting a little tired...'" You think??? Any wife having to deal with 3 deployments in three years like some of the wives in my neighborhood...well...you'd be tired too! It's not only Marine Spouses, but Army, Navy, Airforce, Guard. Thankfully the Marine's deployments are shorter than the Army's, (up to 18 months I hear), but it's still hard not having your spouse home for 6-12 months at a time and then coming home. It's not just the being gone, but what goes on when they come home-- family upheaval, PTSD, injuries, power-struggles, children not knowing the returning mom/dad. Sometimes I think that the guys/gals who leave forget/don't understand how hard it is for those who are left behind when they leave. We end up being mom and dad, and the one responsible for everything, in effect a single parent. To have some one coming and going is very hard, so it doesn't seem to me that it would be unusual or out of the ordinary for people to start to refrain from attending family events while their spouse is deployed. There's a lot to have on one plate while the spouse is gone, especially if it is within fairly short time frames that they are leaving for deployments. In my opinion, (very small and insignificant sometimes), I think that they need to start support groups if there aren't any. Something like AA, but for spouses of military- personnel- deployed. K, the idea is out there, now someone do it.

Great job on the meal planning! Everything sounds wonderful. I know it stinks to have to plan, but in the long run it helps with everything from stretching the $ to keeping a better routine. So glad that you were able to take advantage of Operation Home Front. I hear about all the great things they do for so many families. I agree with the idea that spouses are tired. But it is important to stay involved because there is such a strong community within the military and many resources for families to pull from. I love you and will keep praying! ~

I agree! Staying involved helps to break some of that isolation...even though it is hard sometimes.
