A child's perspective.
This morning while bathing Anthony we had the following conversation:
A: Mamma, why does daddy go away on airplanes and leave me behind the door?
Me: You mean why can't you go through the door onto the airplane with him?
A: Yeah...
Me: Well, daddy has to go to work and you can't go because sometimes it is dangerous and he wants you to be safe.
A: Why?
Me: He wants to know that you are ok, so he leaves you with me, where he knows you will be taken care of.
A: Is he fighting the bad guys?
Me: Not right now. Right now he is learning everything he needs to know to be safe.
A: But he will fight the bad guys!
Me: Yes...soon...
A: *pondering things*.....Someday I will grow up like daddy and go away on an airplane to fight the bad guys and be a big strong man.
Me: .................................................*blubbering like a dummy*..........................................................
A: It's ok, Mamma. Don't cry. It's ok.
